Update on Certification in Cytometry

September 24, 2010

Dear Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that International Society for Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC) and our colleagues at the International Clinical Cytometry Society (ICCS) announce the completion of the cytometry role delineation study. Please click here to view the cytometry certification examination content outline. Thank you again to the subject matter experts who created the role delineation survey and to everyone that completed the survey.

Using survey data from over 650 of your colleagues representing all work and geographic settings the Certification Advisory Committee with support from Prometric, our contracted certification consultant was able determined the knowledge, skills and abilities common to cytometrists. The content outline provides interested parties with an outline of the material that will be covered on the examination. ISAC and ICCS plan to begin testing globally via computer-based testing in the summer of 2011.

In the fall you will receive a Call for Item Writers. Item Writing is the last step in creating the certification examination. In addition to writing potential examination questions, volunteers will be asked to evaluate questions and possibly serve as a beta tester for the examination. Please stay tuned to our web site for more information.

In closing, both Societies are grateful to the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation for their support of this important initiative.

Sincerely,

Bob Murphy, Past-President, ISAC and Brent Wood, President, ICCS on behalf of the Certification Advisory Committee.
