Fiscal Issues

Although a well-established facility has its own momentum, in the early days, the direction and strategy may be less well-defined. The Facility manager should be able to think ahead in order to remain one step ahead of user's requirements. This will include:

  • Liaison with manufacturers to get an idea of which developments are in the pipeline (This is also important as it can be a two-way process with Core facilities feeding back into the manufacturer the additional tools that would make or jobs easier).
  • Being in contact with other facilities and other areas of research which may be in parallel to that used in your own place of work
  • Being able to 'think outside the box'
