Flow Cytometry Assistant (Fixed Term)

A position has become available for a Flow Cytometry Assistant to aid the running of a busy Flow Cytometry Facility at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research.

The post holder will assist the Head of Flow Cytometry in providing a smooth and reliable cell sorting and analysis service to researchers. The practical work associated with the post will involve advanced multi-colour sorting of cells from different origins, routine maintenance of the machines, training and supervising of inexperienced cytometry users, some health and safety guidance and general laboratory organisation. The flow cytometry facility contains three cell sorters (BD Melody and BD Influx) and multiple flow analysers (FACS Calibur, C6, Attune NxT, LSRII and Fortessa). It is mainly based in CIMR, although some equipment is located in MRC-Hutchison Research Centre.

The successful candidate will be qualified to a degree level in a relevant scientific subject.

Experience and knowledge of operating and training others in the use of complex biomedical equipment, excellent communication skills, good learning potential and the ability to troubleshoot problems that arise with the flow sorters and analysers is essential. Team working is crucial as the post holder will work alongside other cytometrists.

This appointment represents an exciting opportunity to develop a career in a rapidly evolving field.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.

Interviews will be held on Monday 26th February 2018.
