Research Cloud Product Manager

Becton Dickinson and Company Biosciences Informatics (FlowJo, LLC) is seeking an experienced and qualified Product Manager to oversee the commercial and product development aspects of a vertically integrated web-based platform for single cell science, in which the verticals are various ‘-omics’. The Research Cloud is a web application which integrates experimental design, data acquisition and storage, and analysis to accelerate discovery.

The product manager works with inside sales, application scientists, technical support, software engineering, software UI & UX Design, marketing, and customers to develop and prioritize software product needs and requirements, drives cross-product development,
and promotes sales and market development through application expertise, and field presentations. The position requires significant direct interaction with existing and potential customers, and carries an expectation of as much as 40% travel, predominantly
within the continental U.S.

Product Leadership & Design

  • Build a long term road map balancing customer needs with resource availability.

  • Participate with the engineering and operations teams to define plans for standardizing, scaling and enhancing our products.

  • Coordinate design, business needs, and engineering resources to drive more value to customers.

  • Provide front end tech support across all products to learn the pain points and aspirations of our customers.  


Product Management

  • Through collaboration with FlowJo science force, marketing, and customers:

    • Gather and specify requirements for Research Cloud and future products

    • Help define product vision and strategy across many stakeholder groups.

    • Drive market development, solution sales, and marketing in both leadership and support roles.

  • Manage integration of our named-user  licensing system, FlowJo Portal, to support new products, customer requirements, and business needs.

  • Provide expertise with regard to potential new markets and applications and support market development, growth, and achievement of sales plan.

  • Prioritize short term goals and tasks listed in our SCRUM backlog; adapting the plan as needed.


Internal and External Education

  • Participate in interactions with customers as a product expert and advocate.

  • Participate with marketing team  in creation of marketing and education product related content for web, print, and/or presentations.  Work collaboratively across Biosciences to drive co-marketing efforts.

  • Keep up to date with cloud-based solutions for laboratory data management, communication and collaboration.   Track major technical/application trends to support improvements in product.

  • Collaborate with Sales & Strategy team to to review previous and complete new market research to determine optimal licensing structure and pricing.

  • Report field activities and trends back through written reports and regular telephone conversations.

  • B.S. or M.S. in biological sciences, with a strong background in information technology or computer science. Ph.D. in biological sciences preferred.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years laboratory experience in flow cytometry or single cell analysis.

  • Must have a deep domain knowledge of Amazon Web Services or similar cloud-based environments.

  • Must have laboratory experience collecting and processing samples, acquiring data and communicating results to others.

  • Strong communication and analytical skills, both written and verbal.

  • Available for up to 40% travel to customer sites.


  • 3+ years of product development using formal agile techniques.

  • Familiarity with working in research or clinical environments in the life sciences.

  • Familiarity with wireframe design program (e.g. Gliffy, LucidChart, Axure).

  • Familiarity with Lab Information management systems (LIMS) and/ or Electronic Lab notebooks (ELNs).
