Conducts experiments/tests required to develop, optimize, validate, and implement new flow cytometry laboratory assays for patient clinical testing. The successful candidate is also responsible for performing routine flow cytometry assays for clinical diagnostic purposes. The candidate must be able to work effectively across functional disciplines and under tight deadlines with minimal supervision. The position requires skills to perform, evaluate, and determine the reliability of test results and procedures, and understand the regulatory and accrediting agency requirements related to flow cytometry; all clinical activities must be conducted in compliance with CLIA, CAP, and all other clinical laboratory regulatory requirements.


§  Performs routine Quality Control (QC) and complex patient testing, develops skills, and maintains competency in flow cytometry.

§  Support management to develop, optimize, validate, and implement new clinical flow cytometry assays for patient clinical testing.

§  Develops effective programs which address continuous quality improvement and systems enhancement with input from faculty, manager, and staff.

§  Performs and provides technical support to the flow cytometry laboratory.

§  Monitors equipment performance, diagnoses malfunctions, and makes repairs or initiates service requests.

§  Maintains proper inventories and correctly uses supplies and reagents.

§  Ensures all policies, procedures and manuals are current and accurate.  Supports management to meet compliance requirements with all pertinent federal, state and accreditation standards.

§  Serves as trainer and role model for flow cytometry staff and health care professional students.

§  In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.


Position Compensation Range: $60,236.80 - $96,387.20 Annual



Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related science, Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology (MT/CLS). 

Experience:  At least 3 years working in a clinical flow cytometry laboratory.

Licensure:  Certified as MT or Flow Cytometry Specialist (ASCP) [or equivalent certification within 18 months of hire]



Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard.  Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs.  May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
