CYTO Youth

CYTO Youth is an outreach initiative, organized by the International Society for the Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC), that began in 2016 to inspire the next generation of scientists to explore their interest in scientific careers using cytometry concepts. At our annual CYTO Congress, local 11th and 12th grade high school students are invited to a day-long workshop and provided opportunities to engage in hands-on learning activities for the purpose of creating interest in and excitement for cytometry. This shows how research and teaching in the field of cytometry bridges the gap between biology and technology, thus providing STEM outreach for the society. Additionally, we invite high-school sciences teachers to learn from world-renowned experts in flow cytometry and to incorporate new educational tools into their curricula.

Students and teachers will:
• Attend an introductory lecture on Flow Cytometry and Applications of Flow Cytometry
• Learn about this technology and how the cytometer works (electronics, software, and more!)
• Participate in activity stations that teach the basic principles of flow and image cytometry.
• Interact with cytometry field leaders and industry representatives.
• Visit the CYTO Exhibit Hall featuring the top biological, engineering, and environmental companies in the world.
