Scientific Interest and Avenues for Collaboration My main interest is developing scientific educational programs for scientists and the lay public including youth. I am currently focused on developing a “blue-print” curriculum for a comprehensive graduate-level training course in Flow and Image Cytometry. The materials created are intended to synergize with the wider “SRL best practice” activities, particularly in relation to user training. They will contribute to existing training programs for SRL’s and will hopefully transcend traditional scientific educational boundaries by informing SRL’s how to successfully plan public scientific outreach events.

Cytometry, and science in general, is often a unifying concept that is essentially the same no matter where we are in the world. Thus, I envision the planned education programs will also benefit the wider ISAC community by breaking down major barriers (language, cultural, social and economic) that traditionally limit access to and understanding of science. In the current COVID-19 climate, I am also actively interested in the use of remote learning techniques and technologies to overcome the limitations that travel bans and social distancing have created to outreach and education. Besides graduate and outreach education, my personal scientific research interests are in spectral flow cytometry particularly in its clinical applications for high-dimensional immunophenotyping and minimal residual disease testing; the role of circulating hematopoietic progenitor cells in acute inflammation and cardiovascular disease; and understanding the immune regulatory role of exosomes derived from tumors.
