Sam Small is a flow cytometry enthusiast who began their career through a student placement in a shared resource laboratory (SRL). After developing a passion for the art of flow cytometry during this placement, Sam remained in the SRL environment and now thrives in a busy core facility.

Scientific Interest and Avenues for Collaboration
Sam’s scientific interests focus on best practices for the use of flow cytometry in longitudinal studies, with particular emphasis on ensuring data quality sufficient for normalization algorithms and high-dimensional data analysis strategies. Additional areas of interest include instrument care and servicing, DIY troubleshooting, minor cytometer repairs to increase self-sufficiency, and instrument standardization.

Poster and workshop presenter at multiple CYTO meetings, most recently focusing on best practices in longitudinal studies

Outside of the laboratory, Sam enjoys exploring the New Zealand outdoors and spending time with their partner and new son.
