Postdoctoral Researcher
VIB-UGent Center for Inflammation Research, Zwijnaarde, Belgium
I’m a postdoctoral researcher at the VIB- UGent Center for Inflammation Research. During my PhD at Ghent University I worked on developing T cell immunotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia (AML). After years of wet lab work, I was ready for a new challenge and joined the Yvan Saeys lab. With no computational background, it was a steep learning curve, but thanks to Sofie Van Gassen, I picked up programming quickly.
Now, I focus on data analysis and tool development, for both clinical cytometry data (as part of the EuroFlow consortium) and for the cytometry community in general. I love sharing knowledge on data analysis and I’m excited to continue doing so as co-chair of the ISAC Data Analysis Education Task Force.
• What inspired you to apply to the LDP or what are you looking forward to with the LDP?
When I joined the Yvan Saeys lab, I got the chance to work with not one but two (former) ISAC Scholars. Seeing how the program helped them grow their network and connect with the cytometry community inspired me to apply. I’m excited to be part of this community, contribute to the cytometry field, and keep learning from others along the way.
• Who is someone fun you have met in this field?
That’s a tough one! I’ve met so many amazing people in the cytometry community over the past few years – at CYTO conferences, other national and international events, and workshops. It’s such a fun, welcoming, and supportive group of people! I honestly can’t pick just one favorite person – I love them all and I feel privileged to be part of this community.
