Yuta Nakagawa is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a flow cytometry enthusiast with interests spanning the full spectrum of innovation in the field, from designing and refining hardware to implementing novel biomedical applications that expand the capabilities of flow cytometry.
Scientific Interest and Avenues for Collaboration
Yuta’s research interests include single-cell analysis, flow cytometry, and lab-on-a-particle assays. He is currently focused on developing novel particle-based assays compatible with flow cytometry, with the goal of enabling large-scale screening of single cells based on functional outputs such as protein secretion and proliferation.
Participation / Support of ISAC
Yuta is a member of ISAC and has attended and presented at CYTO 2025.
Yuta was inspired to apply to the Leadership Development Program after attending CYTO 2025 and speaking with active LDP scholars, including his former colleague and friend Dr. Julia Gala de Pablo. Although CYTO 2025 marked his first engagement with ISAC, he has already experienced the strength of the flow cytometry community in supporting both day-to-day research and career development. He is particularly excited about opportunities through the Marylou Ingram Scholars program to contribute his expertise while learning from the collective mentorship of the community.
Yuta’s first exposure to flow cytometry was as an undergraduate summer intern in Professor Keisuke Goda’s laboratory at The University of Tokyo, where he became inspired by the potential of high-throughput cytometry to reveal previously unseen biological phenomena. He has since remained deeply engaged in flow cytometry research as a graduate student and now as a postdoctoral researcher in Professor Dino Di Carlo’s laboratory at UCLA, working on projects ranging from high-throughput microfluidic droplet sorters to particle-based assays for functional cell screening.
Outside the lab, Yuta enjoys playing and watching soccer and exploring different bakeries in search of great croissants.
