Amanda Stanley is the Flow Cytometry Facility Manager at QIMR Berghofer in Brisbane, Australia. She grew up in Bangor, Northern Ireland, and completed her honours degree and PhD at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, before moving to Brisbane in 2003 to begin her postdoctoral career. Amanda has 25 years of biomedical research experience with extensive expertise in immunology and cell biology, resulting in 32 peer-reviewed publications. Throughout her research career, she developed a specialist interest in flow cytometry and now leads the Flow Cytometry Facility at QIMR Berghofer.
Scientific Interest and Avenues for Collaboration
Amanda is passionate about the benefits of developing a quality management framework and maintaining ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation within a shared resource laboratory (SRL) flow cytometry facility. She believes that ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation provides significant benefits for both internal research and commercial flow cytometry projects by establishing a baseline of quality and excellence across all aspects of flow cytometry. Her scientific interests also include the development, optimisation, and validation of high-parameter spectral flow cytometry panels for use in clinical trials, as well as developing best practices to improve data quality and integrity. She believes SRLs hold key expertise in cutting-edge techniques, applications, and instrumentation that can be applied to both research and clinical studies.
Participation / Support of ISAC
Amanda has been a member of ISAC since 2023. She has participated as a speaker and presenter at CYTO Asia 2017 and CYTO Edinburgh 2024, and attended CYTO Connect in Perth, Australia in 2025. She looks forward to becoming more involved in the society, participating in future CYTO conferences, and is hoping to join an ISAC committee in 2026.
Amanda applied to the ISAC Leadership Development Program to build global connections with like-minded flow cytometrists and to further develop her leadership skills. She is particularly interested in learning from experts in the field, collaborating with fellow emerging leaders, and providing guidance to SRLs interested in accreditation or performing contract clinical trial work.
