CYTO Youth
The mission of the Live Education Delivery program is to bring live, hands-on training programs to countries with developing scientific infrastructure and a need for cytometry training. During the pandemic, virtual workshops were the norm and we continue to also provide some workshops virtually or a combination of virtual and live.

The live workshops typically consist of 3-5 days of lectures and practical sessions, taught by international faculty paired with local faculty. Hosts choose the level and the module topics they consider most useful to their students, from a series of basic to advanced modules and tracks that we offer on research and clinical topics. These workshops are funded by vendor support, local or international grants and student fees; as well as ISAC support in resource limited countries where funds are difficult to obtain. Live Education also works closely with the Instruments for Science (I4S) Committee to ensure on-site training following instrument donations. Since it’s inauguration in 2002 by Dr. Awtar Krishan, more than 100 workshops have trained thousands of students around the world.

Workshop Structure:

The workshops usually start with a “basics of flow” track that goes from instrument function and fluorescence to advanced multicolor panel design including both conventional and full spectrum cytometry. Practical sessions include instrument setup, best practices, multicolor phenotyping, panel design, specific applications and clinical case studies.

The rest of the agenda is customizable depending on topics of interest to the host and participants.
Some of the recent sessions have included:
• Instrument setup
• The “Make Your Own” Cytometer
• Basics of QC and troubleshooting
• Instrument maintenance
• How to assess your data
• High dimensional data analysis
• Cell preparation and phenotyping
• Cell Sorting
• Extracellular vesicles
• Cell cycle and proliferation
• Antibody validation and benchmarking
• Marine Biology
• Leukemia and Lymphoma case studies
• MRD
• Primary Immunodeficiencies
• Plant flow cytometry
• Applications in veterinary sciences
