CYTO Innovation
Cyto innovation
Through its CYTO Innovation initiative, ISAC is inspiring, supporting, and promoting innovation, as an integral part of ISAC’s core mission. This program aims to support innovators in the society who contemplate conversion of their creative ideas into high impact commercial products to help new entrepreneurs leverage inflection points to drive their success.
-CYTO Innovation Benefits-

An environment for an open exchange of information, cross-fertilization of ideas, and stimulation of creative thinking.

Access to a diverse global community of members comprising: cytometry practitioners; biomed students; engineers; physical scientists; data scientists; entrepreneurs, executives, and business professionals.

A unique platform for showcasing innovation in relevant industry sectors to VCs and potential acquirers.

Our underlying goal is to increase the value to professionals working in academia and industry, particularly younger physical scientists and engineers enticing their direct interactions with biologists and clinicians/patients who become beneficiaries of cytometry innovations.
The CYTO Innovation program consists of multilevel initiatives that culminate annually at the CYTO Congress.
CYTO Innovation Session Keynote lecture
2019 keynote presentation “Starting a Biotech: Going Over to the Dark Side or Seeing the Light” will be delivered by by Professor Allen Eaves, Founder, President and CEO of STEMCELL Technologies Inc. Academics never have enough funding for all the research they would like to do. So, selling methylcellulose culture media for growing blood-forming progenitors to research colleagues seemed like a good idea. There were no patents involved as everyone knows how to make the media, we just made it better. After a few years the hospital's administration decided we should form a company and buy the business from them. To do this we mortgaged our house and got a loan from the British Columbia Government, officially going into business as STEMCELL Technologies, Inc. in July, 1993. The business grew nicely and an immunomagnetic cell separation system was licensed in and developed to enrich for many cell types. Other culture media was licensed in, or developed internally, by a growing number of smart young PhDs and technicians who focused on quality. Growth has averaged 20% per annum over 25 years. With 1200 employees, STEMCELL is now Canada's largest biotech company.
Technology Showcase
We are excited to bring together the world’s brightest entrepreneurial minds, to entice interactive discussions between the developers and the researchers who use cytometry instrumentation, and to help new entrepreneurs develop a network of connections to accelerate their new ventures. The 5-minute Technology Showcase presentations allow scientists and engineers who seek to commercialize new technologies and services for cell analysis to present their plans to an audience of cytometrists, entrepreneurs, investors, and business development professionals from established corporations. Submit your application today. Learn More >
Panel Discussions
Expert panel discussions with audience participation offer useful insight into the realities of entrepreneurship, personal experiences of the innovators who have faced challenges and navigated to success.
