Rui is responsible for inventing and commercializing novel imaging flow cytometry and cell sorting technology and bring machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms to next-generation image-guided cell sorters. Rui earned his PhD in electrical engineering with a focus on medical devices and systems from UC San Diego During his PhD training, Rui’s research focus is on imaging flow cytometer and image-guided cell sorter with artificial intelligence. He developed technologies for 2D and 3D imaging flow cytometry, image-guided cell sorter and analysis workflows with artificial intelligence. Rui joined NanoCellect in 2022 to start technology transfer and product commercialization of next-generation image-guided microfluidic cell sorter. Rui is interested in enabling imaging flow cytometry with AI and connecting cell morphologies to multi-omics.

Rui joined the ISAC LDP program as an International Innovator in 2024 and participated in the CYTO webinar organization, CYTO innovation showcase, and chairing CYTO academic sessions.
